Intro
As our Interim Senior Finance Manager (fixed-term, 18–24 months), you will be the backbone of Feather’s financial integrity. You aren't just 'keeping the books'; you are building a scalable, tech-forward finance function. You will bridge the gap between rigorous German HGB compliance and the fast-paced needs of a growing startup. This is a role for a 'doer' who has the strategic mindset to automate workflows and provide the leadership team with the data needed to steer the company.
You'll be responsible for
- Financial Operations & Compliance. Maintain accurate bookkeeping in accordance with HGB and ensure all German tax-related matters (VAT, corporate, and trade tax) are handled correctly.
- Month and Year-End Ownership. Lead the preparation and coordination of monthly reporting and annual financial statements (Jahresabschluss) under HGB, acting as the primary point of contact for and coordinate with, internal and external stakeholders, such as external tax advisors and auditors.
- Process Optimisation. Review and improve existing finance and accounting workflows—transitioning manual tasks into scalable, automated processes as the company grows.
- DATEV Management. Take full ownership of accounting processes and data management within DATEV Unternehmen Online, ensuring the system is used efficiently.
- Internal Reporting. Develop and maintain clear internal financial reporting (e.g., monthly overviews and management reports) to support leadership in decision-making.
- Scalability Projects. Ensure efficient use of tools for expense management, AP/AR, and bank reconciliation.
- Regulatory Documentation. Ensure all financial documentation and processes meet current German regulatory requirements.
Based on seniority and experience, you could also:
- Own the Financial Model. Build and maintain a robust, integrated 3-statement financial model (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) to support long-term strategic planning.
- Budgeting & Forecasting. Implement a rolling forecast process and lead the monthly and annual budgeting cycle, challenging department heads on assumptions to ensure capital efficiency.
- Unit Economics Analysis. Deep dive into the company’s unit economics (CAC, LTV, Churn, Contribution Margin) to identify levers for profitability and growth.
- Fundraising Readiness. Prepare and manage the finance data, ensuring all due diligence materials are audit-ready for future equity or debt financing rounds.
About us
Feather was founded in 2018 by Rob Schumacher and Vincent Audoire, who both faced unexpected challenges navigating Germany’s complex insurance system—even as Europeans themselves. Frustrated by the bureaucracy and lack of clarity, they set out to create a better experience: one that was simple, accessible, and transparent.
Their journey began as part of the first Entrepreneur First Berlin cohort, a program dedicated to helping ambitious individuals build impactful companies from scratch. This foundation enabled them to turn their idea into a mission—making insurance radically easier for everyone.
That’s why we’ve built Feather to simplify every step of the insurance experience—from signing up and filing claims to asking questions or canceling a policy. Our goal is to provide honest, unbiased advice and empower people with the clarity they need to make confident decisions. And because insurance is still too complicated, we offer human support, helpful articles, and easy-to-use tools for those moments when people need a little extra guidance.
To date, Feather has helped people from over 150 countries get insurance online—and we’re growing fast.
